PostSubject: Predictions on next years starters   Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:24 pm

These are my predictions on next years 2008 Georgia Tech Starters. Let me know what you think. Bold are returning starters and players behind the slash will rotate with the starter. A = sign is a toss up. Freshmen not included and keep in mind we need a smaller quicker OL for cutting and blocking downfield. There will be no TE in next years offense. Let me know what you think.

Offense

LT-Andrew Gardner/Nick Clayton
LG-Jason Hill/Clyde Yandell
C-Trey Dunmon/Dan Voss
RG-A.J Smith=Cord Howard/ Brad Sellers=David Brown
RT-Brad Sellers=David Brown/Clyde Yandell

QB-Josh Nesbit/Calvin Booker
B-Back-Johnathan Dwyer/Lucas cox
A-Back-Greg Smith/Tyler Evans
A-Back-Jamal Evans/Roddy Jones

WR-James Johnson/Andrew Smith
WR-Demaryius Thomas/Corey Earls

Defense

DT-Vance Walker/Jason Peters=Shawn Bedford
DT-Daryl Richards/ Elris Anyaibe/Ben Anderson
DE-Michael Johnson/Jason Peters

S-Brad Jefferson=Shane Bowen/Osahan Tongo
M-Travis Chambers=Matt Braman/James Lipfort
W-A. T. Barnes/Sedric Griffin

C-Jahi Word Daniels/Deron Jasper
C-Dominique Reese/Mario Butler
S-Morgan Burnett/Jake Blackwood
S-Tony Clark=Martin Frierson

PostSubject: These are fun   Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:09 am

Machine, your predictions were very interesting especially on both lines. It really makes me reconsider what I've been thinking since you've played beside these guys or gone up against these guys for the last several years. I never would've thought about Anyaibe at DE. And I admittedly don't know much about Hill/Sellers/Brown on the OL. Also, you must think a lot of Lipfort and Bedford to put them as walkons on the depth chart. With the new coaching staff and a clean slate, it will make for some very interesting battles and I predict a few surprises/upsets (although not in my prediction below so much). But, this is just for fun anyways so ...

Fun Predictions: (freshmen excluded)

Offense
For me the OL is the hardest to predict with the new offense. Gardner is the only one you can be sure of.
LT-Andrew Gardner/A.J. Smith = Yandell = one of the converted DE's Sellers/Brown/Hill
LG-Clyde Yandell = Dan Voss = Cord Howard / Nick Claytor = Joseph Gilbert
C-Trey Dunmon = Dan Voss / Joseph Gilbert or a BIG surprise here because center is supposed to be the best OL in the new offense .... heck it could be Gardner.
RG-Clyde Yandell = Dan Voss = Cord Howard / Nick Claytor=Joseph Gilbert
RT-A.J Smith=Clyde Yandell= one of the converted DE's Sellers/Brown/Hill

QB-Josh Nesbit/Calvin Booker
B-Back - Dwyer/Kelly/Cox
A-Back 1 - J.Evans/T.Evans
A-Back 2 - Jones/Earls/G.Smith (I heard Smith wants to play A-back)
Note A-backs are very interchangeable

A lot of WR depth depends on A-Back possibilities.
WR-Greg Smith=James Johnson = Corey Earles / Andrew Smith = R.B. Clyburn
WR-Demaryius Thomas / Andrew Smith = R.B. Clyburn

Defense

DE-Derrick Morgan/Eubegnwe (Heard Hall was still battling his injury)
DT-Vance Walker/Logan Walls/Ben Anderson
DT-Daryl Richard/Anyaibe
DE-Michael Johnson/Jason Peters

I took a look at the depth chart on RW.com for the bowl game and found a few enlightening surprises. Bowen was listed as the backup MLB behind Wheeler, and T.Clark was the only non-starter in the 2-deep. So, ...
S-Brad Jefferson= Sedric Griffin = Tony Clark / Osahan Tongo; Chambers could possibly find a home here also depending on the roles of Sam and the rest of the LB's in this defense
M-Bowen / Travis Chambers = AT Barnes
W-AT Barnes / Jefferson = Griffin = Clark / Rocker = Jackson

Clark is a wild card.
C-Jahi Word Daniels/Mike Peterson
C-D Reese = Mario Butler/Mike Peterson
S-Morgan Burnett/Jake Blackwood = Tony Clark
S-Jarrard Tarrant/Deron Jasper = Tony Clark
5'th DB - Reese = Butler = Peterson = Tarrant = Blackwood = Jasper = Clark (going out on a limb here Razz)

PostSubject: Forgot someone   Thu Mar 20, 2008 11:03 am

I forgot all about Willie White. Some are saying that he should have a great chance at being a starter or get playing time as well, whether as a starting free safety or as the 5'th DB to cover the slot receiver. If he were the FS that would mean M.Burnett would move to SS. If White is good enough, I wouldn't mind that combination at all. I think M.Burnett would be a great SS, as he always appeared to be a sure tackler.

In Tenuta's defense, most of the time it didn't matter which safety you were; both were interchangable. I wonder if the new defense will be the same way.

Also read an article that said Tarrant was moved to corner and was expected to earn immediate playing time there. So, that sure makes some changes to my predicted starting defensive backfield. Now, I guess my prediction would have to be:

C-Jahi Word Daniels / Mike Peterson
C-D Reese = Mario Butler = Jarrard Tarrant / Mike Peterson
S-Morgan Burnett / Deron Jasper = Martin Frierson = Tony Clark
S-Willie White = Jake Blackwood / Deron Jasper = Martin Frierson = Tony Clark
5'th DB - Reese = Butler = Peterson = Tarrant = Blackwood = Jasper = Clark = White = Frierson (going out on a limb here Razz)

You've got to think some freshman are going to see some decent playing time (in certain packages) at positions where we are thin. QB & DB

who do you think is gonna be punt returner this year?

Jarrod Tarrant came in very highly touted at that winning AAA specialist of the year for 07 according the ajc with about 7 (something ridiculous like that) tds- so i was wondering if you think he is a shoe in for PR.

Also what is your opinion of him as a DB?

What is your impressions of albert rocker and oshon tongo? Do you know whether there will be a linebacker rotation-cause i think we have so much depth it's a shame not to get these guys PT? Who was the most impressive guy on offense and defense that redshirted last year?

If not a freshmen Andrew Smith, Tyler Evans or Jamall Evans will return punts. Keep in mind we do have the same special teams coach, coach Kelly. I dont know to much about freshmen coming in. I think there will be a rotation at Linebacker I dont think Osahan Tongo has met his full potential yet. He had a acl tear that he is coming back from so I look for improvements in him rapidly.

QB = Booker - I just think his under center time, experience, etc. will win out over Nesbitt. I love Nesbitt, but I think Booker will win out.

PostSubject: B Back/QB   Mon Mar 24, 2008 5:21 pm

From a fan's perspective it looks like Dwyer is the natural for the B back position. Typically this is where you want your workhorse runner. It's a FB position, but the skill set needed at this position is not what you'd find in a typical FB. This position should have at least 100 yds. rushing per game or something is wrong.
At QB, you want speed and quickness and with that in mind, it looks like Nesbitt would be the guy. Having said that, quick decision making and ball protection are also a must. I really haven't seen enough of Booker or Nesbitt to make a determination, but hey..... that's what spring practice is for.
These coaches know this offense intimately and believe me, they'll put the right guys in position by September.

There were some internet rumors last year that Dwyer wasn't a north/south runner... that he prefered to run off the tackles... The B back has to be that guy...
