This article shows that the ACC has had great talent over the last couple year. So why has the conference been so weak the last two years? If we have the talent why not the results? Lack of coaching IMO must be the answer. This goes back to my nature vs nurture view. The ACC has had the nature, but no nurturers to grow the players into winners. Will this continue becomes the question? The ACC has changed a lot of their nurturers recently, with GT, and Duke changing nurturers over the last year, and NCST, NC, Miami and BC changing nurturers a year ago this may change things a lot. Below are the quotes about the ACC talent.

"The ACC leads all Conferences over the last three years with 25 first round selections compared to 21 for the SEC and 18 for the Big 10. The PAC 10 is next with 11 followed by the Big 12 (Cool .

With Virginia's Chris Long and Boston College's Matt Ryan being chosen second and third in this year's NFL Draft, the Atlantic Coast Conference becomes the first Conference in the nation to have two of its student-athletes chosen among the top four picks in the NFL Draft for three consecutive years.no other collegiate conference has achieved in the 71 years of the Draft.

The ACC also led all Conferences with first round selections having seven players tabbed in the first round including Long, Ryan, Virginia offensive tackle Branden Albert (15th, Kansas City), Boston College offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus (17th, Detroit), Virginia Tech offensive tackle Duane Brown (26th, Houston), North Carolina defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer (29th, San Francisco) and Miami defensive back Kenny Phillips (31st, New York Giants). The SEC and PAC-10 were second, each with six players chosen in the first round.

Also, with Long, the defensive end from Virginia, being the first defensive player selected marked the third straight year the ACC has had the top defensive player chosen in the Draft following Williams in 2006 and Adams in 2007. It was also the fourth time in the past seven years the Conference has had the top defender tabbed in the draft as North Carolina's Julius Peppers (2nd, Carolina) was the top defensive player chosen in 2002.

In all, in the first two rounds of the draft the ACC had 11 players chosen, tying the PAC 10 for the most players in the first two rounds. The ACC had 9 of the first 35 players tabbed with Clemson's Phillip Merling (32, Miami), Virginia Tech's Brandon Flowers (35th, Kansas City) and Eddie Royal (42, Denver) and Miami's Calais Campbell all being chosen in the second round."

Nice post. Never go head to head with this guy on facts.l He is a nut for facts. Thanks for all the good info.

TH..... college football is all about the QB and lets face it the ACC has not had many QB's over the last 3 years to make the league a good one. IF the ACC had this position locked down like the PAC and SEC there would be no doubt in my mind that we would be the top conference.

Nice article TH, and I just posted a draft comparison in the "ramblin" section of the forum. I made thoughts along the same trend as you being a coaching issue first and foremost. Usually people argue it's either that or lack of talented QBs ala geebee did above. The arguement could certainly lean either way.

I agree that QB's have been a issue. Besides Matt Ryan who is one of the best, the other 11 are pretty weak. However, QB's are important but by far are not as important as Coaches. QB's don't play defense, which is half the game, QB' dont play the other 10 positions of offense which impact a lot of the offense and I think the whole offensive line could be argued more important than the QB by itself. Look at the Tgame results the offensive line was so outplayed by the DL it really didn't matter who we had back there. However, the lack of QB on the other 11 teams have had some impact on our conference the last 2 years. But the coaches develope the QB's and every other player, and put them in the right position (play/schema). JMO
