2 of our top 3 players (both seniors) are basically done for the year.
David North was a top 20 ranked college singles player and an All-American as a freshman. He's playing with two fractured vertibrae and could only play four or so dual matches last year. This year he has tried to play some singles and is something like 4-2 at the #1 and 2 spots. Now he is limited to just doubles.
Jose M. was ranked 500 in the world two years ago. He left after his sophomore year and played one year professionally. He had wins over Bhagdatis (top 20 player in the world). But he saw the reality of trying to make it on the tour and came back to school. He was out much of last year and had wrist surgery. Now his wrist is screwed up again.
So we would have had a top 15 team last year and finished #40. This year should be about the same. We are starting 4 freshman in a 6 man lineup.
It's a shame but what can you do?
